Papers and photographs, 1943-1945.

Papers and photographs of Wesley J. Schwoegler, a Madison, Wisconsin alderman who served in the Navy during World War II. The majority of the collection consists of holiday greeting cards that friends and family sent to Schwoegler during his service. The cards are colorful and cover a range of occasions: entering the service, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, and Easter. Some contain simple written holiday greetings while others contain lengthier letter-like messages. Other materials in the collection include some postcards exchanged among Schwoegler, his wife, his parents and friends. Most of the postcard messages are quite brief. Also included is some ephemera that Schwoegler picked up while in service such as menus, programs for performances, and train tickets. Photographs include two shots of Schwoegler in Navy uniform.
